Warrior Infantry Fighting Vehicle

The Warrior, formally the FV510 and originally developed under the designation MCV-80, is a British tracked infantry fighting vehicle designed by GKN Defence to replace the older FV430 series of armored personnel carriers, with production beginning in 1986 and the vehicle entering British Army service in 1987. Armed with a 30mm RARDEN cannon and a coaxial machine gun and carrying a crew of three plus seven dismounted infantry, the Warrior was built around the British doctrine that an infantry vehicle's job is to deliver troops under armor protection to their objective rather than to fight mounted, and it accordingly has no firing ports for infantry to shoot from inside the hull. More than a thousand Warriors were built, the British Army received nearly eight hundred, and Kuwait purchased a further batch of modified Desert Warrior variants, with the type seeing combat service in the Gulf War, the Iraq War and Afghanistan.
