Indian forces launched Operation Vijay to dislodge them, backed by air power, and gradually recaptured the peaks after months of grueling high-altitude combat. Under sustained international pressure, particularly from the United States, Pakistan withdrew its remaining forces, restoring the pre-conflict line and marking the first open armed conflict between India and Pakistan since both had become declared nuclear-weapon states in 1998.FactsKargil WarConnectionsSourcesComments (0)Reader Challenges (0)FactsStart YearWell-attested1999 2End YearWell-attested1999 2CombatantsWell-attestedIndia vs Pakistan 2OutcomeWell-attestedIndian victory; India regained possession of Kargil 2ClassificationDeath Toll MinWell-attestedfrom 1172 1Conflict TypeWell-attestedInterstate War 2Kargil WarFilter Results11 entriesWeapon FamilyAllAssault Rifles (2)Assault Rifles of Asia-Pacific (1)Assault Rifles of China (1)Fighter and Multirole Aircraft (1)Heavy Machine Guns (1)Man-Portable Air Defense Systems (3)Medieval Daggers (1)Pistols and Revolvers (1)Rifles and Carbines (2)Rocket Artillery (1)Semi-Automatic Pistols (1)Semi-Automatic Pistols of Asia-Pacific (1)Tanks (1)Weapon Type or ClassAllAssault rifle (2)Heavy machine gun (1)Main battle tank (1)Man-portable air-defense system (MANPADS) (1)Man-portable surface-to-air missile (1)Self-propelled multiple rocket launcher (1)Semi-automatic pistol (1)supersonic jet fighter and interceptor aircraft (1)CaliberAll12.7x108mm (1)122mm (1)125mm (1)5.56x45mm NATO (1)5.56×30mm MINSAS (1)7.62x25mm (1)7.62x39mm (1)7.62×25mm Tokarev (1)9x19mm (1)Introduced EraAll650 (1)1938 (1)1951 (1)1954 (1)1959 (1)1963 (1)1973 (1)1981 (2)1983 (1)1989 (1)1998 (1)Service StatusAllIn Service (11)OperatorAllBritish Army (2)Bundeswehr (1)Egyptian Armed Forces (1)Hezbollah (1)Indian Air Force (1)Indian Army (1)Israeli Defense Forces (1)Luftwaffe (1)Mexican Armed Forces (1)People's Liberation Army (2)People's Liberation Army Air Force (1)Red Army (1)Russian Armed Forces (1)Spanish Armed Forces (1)ManufacturerAllBangladesh Ordnance Factories (1)China North Industries Group Corporation Limited (1)General Dynamics Corporation (2)Khan Research Laboratories (1)Mikoyan (1)NPO Splav (1)Ordnance Factory Board (OFB) (1)Raytheon (2)Tula Arms Plant (1)Uralvagonzavod (1)Show ResultsBrowseCompareSelect all 11Anza (missile)Kargil WarBM-21 GradKargil WarDShKKargil WarFIM-92 StingerKargil WarINSAS rifleKargil WarKukriKargil WarMiG-21Kargil WarStinger MissileKargil WarT-72Kargil WarType 54 pistolKargil WarType 81 assault rifleKargil WarConnectionsCommanders and ForcesIndian Army, Armed Forces and Units Well-attested The Indian Army recaptured high-altitude positions from Pakistani infiltrators in the 1999 Kargil WarIndian Navy, Armed Forces and Units Well-attested Source Wikipedia: Indian Navytier 4UsesAnza (missile), Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: Anza (missile)BM-21 Grad, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: BM-21 GradDShK, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: DShKFIM-92 Stinger, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: FIM-92 StingerINSAS rifle, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: INSAS rifleKukri, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: Kukritier 4MiG-21, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: MiG-21tier 4Stinger Missile, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: FIM-92 StingerT-72, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: T-72tier 2Type 54 pistol, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: Type 54 pistolType 81 assault rifle, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: Type 81 assault rifleSources1.
