The Seven Years' War (1756 to 1763) is often described as the first global conflict: a British-Prussian coalition fought a French-Austrian-Russian coalition across Europe, North America (where related fighting is also called the French and Indian War), India, the Caribbean and West Africa. Estimates for total deaths, military and civilian, range from under one million to well over one million depending on which regional campaigns and disease deaths are counted, and no single reconciled figure commands scholarly consensus.
