The Brown Bess was the British Army's muzzle-loading smoothbore flintlock Land Pattern Musket, its standard service musket from 1722 until 1838, when it was superseded by a percussion cap musket. It armed British regulars through the American Revolutionary War and the Napoleonic Wars.
