Lefaucheux M1858

The Lefaucheux M1858 is a French six shot revolver designed by Casimir Lefaucheux and his son Eugene, and the first metallic cartridge revolver officially adopted by any armed service, entering use in 1858. Chambered for 12mm pinfire cartridges, its open frame design used a hinged loading gate on the right side and a barrel mounted ejector rod, with cylinder notches cut to clear the cartridge's exposed pin; it was originally single action, with double action versions following by 1865. Manufactured by La Societe Lefaucheux et Cie, Manufacture d'armes de Saint-Étienne, A. Francotte and J. B. Ronge Fils, it remained in service until 1873.
