The Paraguayan War, also known as the War of the Triple Alliance, was a war in South America fought from 1864 to 1870 between Paraguay and the Triple Alliance of Argentina, the Empire of Brazil and Uruguay. The Allies won a decisive victory, Paraguay ceded about forty percent of its pre-war claimed territory to Brazil and Argentina, and Allied forces occupied Paraguay until 1876.
