How far and how fast could a Springfield Model 1861 be fired?

The National Park Service lists the Model 1861 Springfield rifle musket as a .58 caliber, muzzle-loaded, single-shot weapon with a percussion cap action, firing a Minie ball paper cartridge. Its listed effective range is 400 to 500 yards, and the same account says it could be fired three times per minute with a deadly effective range over 400 yards.
