The Breda-SAFAT was a pair of Italian machine guns designed for use in aircraft, one in 7.7 mm and one in 12.7 mm calibre. They were also known as the Breda Mod. SAFAT cal. 7,7 and cal. 12,7, or simply as the Breda-SAFAT 7.7 and 12.7. The designer was Giuseppe Mascarucci. The guns were chambered for the standard ammunition then used by the Regia Aeronautica, the Italian air force, in 0.303 inch and 0.500 inch calibres. Loads included ball and tracer for the 7.7 mm gun, a high explosive incendiary tracer round filled with 0.8 grams of PETN, and armour-piercing ammunition for the 12.7 mm gun.
