The HK33 is a 5.56mm assault rifle developed in the 1960s by the West German manufacturer Heckler & Koch, chiefly for export markets. It uses the roller delayed blowback operating system of the earlier G3 rifle, scaled down to fire the .223 Remington and 5.56x45mm NATO cartridges, and entered production in 1968. It was manufactured under licence in Turkey by MKEK from 1999 onward and was adopted by armed forces in Brazil, Thailand and Malaysia along with police and special forces units in Germany, the United Kingdom and Peru, though it never matched the commercial success of the larger G3.
