The Heckler & Koch G95, from the German Gewehr 95, is a 5.56x45mm NATO assault rifle designed and made by the German company Heckler & Koch. It is a variant of the HK416, which pairs the AR-15 family layout with a short-stroke gas piston system derived from the company's G36. The first version, later designated G95K, was an HK416A7 variant adopted by the German special forces units KSK and KSM in 2017. The Bundeswehr then ran a program to replace the G36, which was criticised for accuracy problems from heat; the Haenel MK 556 won first and was cancelled amid a patent dispute, and the HK416A8 was chosen in 2021. The G95A1 and the shorter G95KA1 were adopted by the wider Bundeswehr in 2025, with the G95KA1 as the standard rifle of the German Army, and the Bundeswehr expected to buy 118,718 rifles.
