L1A1 Self-Loading Rifle

The L1A1 Self-Loading Rifle is the British built version of the Belgian FN FAL battle rifle, adapted from a design by Dieudonne Saive and Ernest Vervier and manufactured at the Royal Small Arms Factory and other Commonwealth arsenals from 1954. Chambered in 7.62 by 51 millimeter NATO, it became the standard infantry rifle of the United Kingdom and most Commonwealth nations, serving with British forces from 1954 until 1994 and remaining in service elsewhere afterward. The British Army began replacing it with the L85A1 in 1985.
