The M7 is the United States Army service rifle adopted through the Next Generation Squad Weapon program, a variant of the SIG MCX-SPEAR built by SIG Sauer and chambered in the 6.8x51mm Common Cartridge. It was selected to replace the M4 carbine, uses a short-stroke gas-operated piston system and SR-25 pattern magazines, and began reaching troops in March 2024 after SIG Sauer won a ten-year Army contract in April 2022.
