It was founded in 1982 by Lebanese Shiite clerics working closely with Iran, in the setting of the Lebanese civil war, the collapse of central authority and the Israeli invasion of Lebanon, and was first helped by about 1,500 Iranian Revolutionary Guard instructors. In the 1980s and 1990s it fought Israeli forces and the South Lebanon Army until Israel withdrew from the south in 2000. It played a prominent part in the 2006 Lebanon War and later fought alongside Bashar al-Assad's government in the Syrian civil war. In 2016 its armed strength was assessed as equal to a medium-sized army.FactsHezbollahConnectionsIn the Other AtlasesSourcesComments (0)Reader Challenges (0)FactsForce TypeWell-attestedLebanese Shia Islamist political party with a paramilitary wing 1Founded YearWell-attested1982 1CountryWell-attestedLebanon 1Force TypeForce Type (category)Well-attestedParamilitary / Guerrilla 1HezbollahFilter Results12 entriesWeapon FamilyAllAnti-Ship and Anti-Submarine Missiles (2)Anti-Tank Weapons and Mines (2)Assault Rifles (2)Assault Rifles of China (1)Assault Rifles of Russia and the Soviet Union (1)Cruise Missiles (1)Light Machine Guns (1)Military Drones and Unmanned Aircraft (1)Rifles and Carbines (4)Rocket Artillery (1)Semi-Automatic and Battle Rifles (1)Sniper, Designated Marksman and Anti-Materiel Rifles (1)Weapon Type or ClassAllAnti-materiel rifle (1)Anti-tank missile (1)Assault rifle (2)Kalashnikov rifle family (export series) (1)man-portable anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) (1)missile (3)Self-propelled multiple rocket launcher (1)squad automatic weapon, light machine gun (1)unmanned aerial system (1)CaliberAll.460 Steyr (1).50 BMG (1)122mm (1)7.62x39mm (3)Introduced EraAll1956 (1)1959 (1)1961 (1)1963 (1)1975 (1)1993 (1)1994 (2)1998 (1)2004 (1)2011 (1)2020 (1)Service StatusAllIn Service (8)Wars Used InAll2026 Iran War (1)Angolan Civil War (1)Cambodian Civil War (1)Eritrean War of Independence (1)First Chechen War (1)Gaza War (1)Gulf War (3)Iran-Iraq War (3)Iraq War (5)Kargil War (1)Kosovo War (1)Laotian Civil War (1)Ogaden War (1)Russo-Georgian War (1)Russo-Ukrainian War (4)Second Sudanese Civil War (1)South African Border War (1)Soviet-Afghan War (2)Sri Lankan Civil War (1)Syrian Civil War (4)Vietnam War (2)War in Afghanistan (2001-2021) (2)Yemeni Civil War (2)Yugoslav Wars (1)ManufacturerAllChina North Industries Group Corporation Limited (1)Defense Industries Organization (1)Degtyarev plant (1)Iran Aviation Industries Organization (1)Kalashnikov Concern (1)KBP Instrument Design Bureau (1)McDonnell Aircraft Corporation (1)McDonnell Douglas (1)NPO Splav (1)Raytheon (1)Steyr Arms (1)Vyatskiye Polyany Machine-Building Plant (1)Show ResultsBrowseCompareSelect all 129M133 KornetHezbollahAK-100 (rifle family)HezbollahAK-103HezbollahArash (drone)HezbollahBM-21 GradHezbollahM47 DragonHezbollahNoor (missile)HezbollahPaveh Cruise MissileHezbollahQader (missile)HezbollahRPKHezbollahSteyr HS .50HezbollahType 56 Assault RifleHezbollahConnectionsFought InSyrian Civil War, Wars Well-attested Source Wikipedia: Hezbollahtier 4Operates9M133 Kornet, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: 9M133 Kornettier 2AK-100 (rifle family), Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: AK-100 (rifle family)AK-103, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: AK-103Arash (drone), Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: Arash (drone)BM-21 Grad, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: BM-21 GradM47 Dragon, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: M47 DragonNoor (missile), Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: Noor (missile)Paveh Cruise Missile, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: Paveh cruise missileQader (missile), Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: Qader (missile)RPK, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: RPKtier 4Steyr HS .50, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: Steyr HS .50Type 56 Assault Rifle, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: Type 56 assault rifleIn the Other AtlasesFound InLebanonAlso in Geography Atlas: where this subject is found.Sources1.
