The QBZ-03, also called the Type 03, is a Chinese assault rifle. It is gas operated and selective-fire, and it was designed and developed for the 5.8x42mm DBP87 round. Its name comes from the Mandarin words for light rifle automatic. Unlike the bullpup QBZ-95, it has a conventional layout, a choice meant to make it easy to use for police officers and soldiers already familiar with earlier issued assault rifles. The article infobox lists service from 2003 and manufacture by Norinco, and it names the 5.56x45mm NATO cartridge alongside the Chinese round.
