Vickers MBT

The Vickers MBT is a British main battle tank designed by Vickers-Armstrongs as a private export venture, with a first prototype completed in 1963 and service beginning in 1965. It combined proven components from earlier British tanks, including the L7 gun from the Centurion, the Leyland L60 multi-fuel engine, and transmission and fire-control systems from the Chieftain, in a 38,600 kilogram hull with welded rolled homogeneous armor, a 105mm main gun carrying 44 rounds, a top speed of 48 kilometers per hour, and a four-person crew. A licensed variant, the Vijayanta, was produced in India and served with the Indian Army, and the Vickers MBT itself saw combat in the Indo-Pakistani wars of 1965 and 1971 and was exported to countries including Kuwait and Kenya.
