Zastava M21

Small Arms And Sidearms

The Zastava M21 is an assault rifle made by Zastava Arms of Serbia in the NATO 5.56 x 45 mm calibre. It is built on the Kalashnikov system, using a gas-operated action with a rotating bolt, and the maker describes a cold-forged, chrome-lined barrel, an ambidextrous fire selector, iron sights with tritium inserts, a flash hider, polymer handguards and a polymer stock that folds to the right side. The line has several variants that differ mainly in barrel length, among them the M21 ABS with a 460 mm barrel and the shorter M21 SBS, and a 40 mm underbarrel grenade launcher can be fitted. Zastava states that the rifle passed military-standard testing and was taken into the armament of the Serbian military. It was designed to carry the familiar Kalashnikov layout into the NATO cartridge class.
