The Soviet Union and Cuba, which deployed large numbers of troops, backed the MPLA government, while the United States and apartheid South Africa supported UNITA under Jonas Savimbi, and fighting continued through failed peace efforts and a contested 1992 election that UNITA rejected. The war finally ended in 2002, when Savimbi was killed in action by government forces, prompting UNITA to agree to a ceasefire and transition into a purely political party after some twenty-seven years of intermittent warfare.FactsAngolan Civil WarConnectionsSourcesComments (0)Reader Challenges (0)FactsStart YearWell-attested1975 1End YearWell-attested2002 1CombatantsWell-attestedMPLA (Angola); UNITA 1OutcomeWell-attestedMPLA victory 1ClassificationDeath Toll MinWell-attestedfrom 800,000 1Conflict TypeWell-attestedCivil War 1Angolan Civil WarFilter Results7 entriesWeapon FamilyAllAssault Rifles (1)Assault Rifles of Europe (1)Bolt-Action, Lever-Action and Historic Rifles (1)Pistols and Revolvers (1)Rifles and Carbines (4)Semi-Automatic and Battle Rifles (2)Semi-Automatic Pistols (1)Semi-Automatic Pistols of Russia and the Soviet Union (1)Submachine Guns (2)Weapon Type or ClassAllBolt-action rifle (1)Semi-automatic pistol (1)Semi-automatic rifle (2)small arm (1)Submachine gun (2)CaliberAll.22 Long Rifle (1).30 carbine (1).41 Action Express (1).45 ACP (1)7.62x25mm (1)7.62x33mm (1)7.62x39mm (1)7.62x51mm NATO (1)7.62x54mmR (1)7.62×25mm Tokarev (1)9x18mm (1)9x19mm (1)9×19 mm Parabellum (2)9×21mm (1)Introduced EraAll1891 (1)1936 (1)1942 (1)1948 (1)1951 (2)1954 (1)1967 (1)Service StatusAllIn Service (6)Retired (2)OperatorAllBritish Army (1)Canadian Army (1)Indian Army (1)Israeli Defense Forces (1)People's Liberation Army (1)Red Army (1)Russian Armed Forces (1)Soviet Armed Forces (1)Turkish Armed Forces (1)United States Army (1)United States Marine Corps (1)ManufacturerAllChina North Industries Group Corporation Limited (1)Fegyver- és Gépgyár (1)FN Herstal (1)General Motors (1)IBM (1)IMI Systems (1)Izhevsk Mechanical Plant (1)Kalashnikov Concern (1)Manufacture d'armes de Châtellerault (1)Remington Arms (1)Sestroretsk arsenal (1)Springfield Armory (1)Tula Arms Plant (1)Westinghouse Electric Corporation (1)Winchester Repeating Arms Company (1)Česká zbrojovka Uherský Brod (1)BrowseCompareSelect all 7AMD-65Angolan Civil WarM1 carbineAngolan Civil WarM1 Garand RifleAngolan Civil WarMakarov PM PistolAngolan Civil WarMosin-Nagant RifleAngolan Civil WarSa 23Angolan Civil WarUziAngolan Civil WarConnectionsUses2K12 Kub, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: 2K12 KubAMD-65, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: AMD-65B-10 recoilless rifle, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: B-10 recoilless rifleBM-21 Grad, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: BM-21 GradBRDM-1, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: BRDM-1BTR-50, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: BTR-50BTR-70, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: BTR-70D-30 Howitzer, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: 122 mm howitzer 2A18 (D-30)DShK, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: DShKFIM-92 Stinger, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: FIM-92 StingerKPV heavy machine gun, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: KPV heavy machine gunM1 carbine, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: M1 carbineM1 Garand Rifle, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: M1 Garand Rifletier 2Makarov PM Pistol, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Makarov pistol, WikipediaMosin-Nagant Rifle, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Mosin-Nagant (Wikipedia)Panhard AML, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: Panhard AMLPanhard M3, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: Panhard M3PT-76, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source PT-76, WikipediaSa 23, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: Sa 23Stinger Missile, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: FIM-92 StingerT-34, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: T-34tier 2T-54/T-55, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: T-54/T-55tier 2T-55, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: T-54/T-55tier 2T-64, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: T-64Type 63 (armoured personnel carrier), Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: Type 63 (armoured personnel carrier)Uzi, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: Uzitier 4Sources1.
