The T-34 is a Soviet medium tank of the Second World War, the first production examples of which were completed in September 1940. It had a profound effect on the fighting on the Eastern Front, and its combination of firepower, armor and mobility influenced tank design well beyond the war: its development led directly to the T-44, then the T-54 and T-55 series, which in turn evolved into the later T-62.
