The MP 18 is a German submachine gun designed and built by Bergmann Waffenfabrik. It entered service with the German Army in mid-1918, during the final months of the First World War, and was intended as a short-range weapon that gave individual soldiers in the trenches more firepower than a pistol alone could provide.
