The Type 30 rifle, known as the Arisaka, is a box fed, bolt action, repeating rifle that served as the standard infantry rifle of the Imperial Japanese Army from 1897, the thirtieth year of the Meiji era from which its name is drawn, until 1905. Development was directed by Colonel Arisaka Nariakira at the Koishikawa Arsenal. The rifle saw action from the Boxer Rebellion through the Second World War, and roughly 554,000 rifles and 45,000 carbines of the type were manufactured.
