The Boxer Rebellion, also known as the Boxer Uprising, Boxer Movement or Yihetuan Movement, was an anti-foreign, anti-imperialist and anti-Christian uprising waged in North China between 1899 and 1901 by the Society of Righteous and Harmonious Fists, known as the Boxers, toward the end of the Qing dynasty. An Eight-Nation Alliance of the United Kingdom, Russia, Japan, France, Germany, the United States, Italy and Austria-Hungary, joined by the Netherlands, Spain, Belgium and Portugal, intervened against the Boxers and the Qing state, and the rebellion ended in an Eight-Nation Alliance victory sealed by the Boxer Protocol.
