Mannlicher M1888

The Mannlicher M1888 is a bolt action rifle designed by Ferdinand Mannlicher for Austria-Hungary, the third of his straight pull rifle designs to use an en bloc clip. It descended from the earlier M1886 but introduced a new 8mm cartridge that was originally loaded with black powder. Armies used the rifle from its introduction in 1888 through 1945, including during the Boer Wars and both World Wars, before it was superseded in Austro-Hungarian service by the improved Mannlicher M1895 with its rotating bolt.
