India intervened militarily in December 1971 in support of Bengali nationalist forces, and its combined air, naval and ground campaign in the eastern theater proceeded rapidly against Pakistani forces there. Pakistani forces in the east surrendered at Dhaka on 16 December 1971, one of the most decisive outcomes of any Indo-Pakistani war, and the surrender led directly to the creation of the independent state of Bangladesh from what had been East Pakistan.FactsIndo-Pakistani War of 1971ConnectionsSourcesComments (0)Reader Challenges (0)FactsStart YearWell-attested1971 2End YearWell-attested1971 2CombatantsWell-attestedIndia against Pakistan 2OutcomeWell-attestedIndian victory 2ClassificationDeath Toll MinWell-attestedfrom 11,223 1Conflict TypeWell-attestedInterstate War 2Indo-Pakistani War of 1971Filter Results12 entriesWeapon FamilyAllAnti-Ship and Anti-Submarine Missiles (1)Infantry Fighting Vehicles and Armored Personnel Carriers (2)Rifles and Carbines (2)Semi-Automatic and Battle Rifles (2)Surface-to-Air and Air Defense Missiles (2)Tanks (4)Weapon Type or ClassAllAmphibious armored personnel carrier (1)Anti-ship missile (1)Armored personnel carrier (1)Field gun / gun-howitzer (1)High-altitude surface-to-air missile system (1)Main battle tank (1)Main battle tank (Centurion) (1)Medium tank (2)Recoilless rifle (1)Semi-automatic rifle (1)Shipboard point-defense surface-to-air missile (1)CaliberAll.50 BMG (1)105mm (5)106 x 607 mm R (1)14.5x114mm (1)7.62x51mm NATO (1)7.62x54mmR (1)75mm (1)76.2mm (1)84mm (1)87.6mm (1)90mm (1)Introduced EraAll1940 (1)1942 (1)1945 (1)1946 (1)1952 (1)1953 (2)1954 (1)1955 (1)1957 (1)1960 (2)1961 (1)1962 (1)1963 (1)1965 (1)Service StatusAllIn Service (9)Retired (3)OperatorAllAustralian Army (1)Australian Defence Force (2)Brazilian Army (1)British Army (1)Canadian Armed Forces (2)Canadian Army (1)Egyptian Armed Forces (2)French Armed Forces (1)Indian Army (1)Israeli Defense Forces (1)Red Army (1)Royal Air Force (2)Royal Navy (1)United States Army (2)United States Marine Corps (1)United States Navy (1)Vietnam People's Army (1)ManufacturerAllAmerican Locomotive Company (2)BAE Systems (1)Baldwin Locomotive Works (1)Fabryka Samochodów Ciężarowych (1)Firestone Tire and Rubber Company (1)Fisher Body (1)FMC Corporation (1)Ford Motor Company (1)General Motors (1)Goodyear Tire and Rubber Company (1)Kaiser Aluminum (1)Leyland Motors (1)Lima Locomotive Works (1)MKB Raduga (1)Pressed Steel Car Company (1)Royal Ordnance (1)Royal Ordnance Factory (1)Royal Small Arms Factory (1)Short Brothers (1)Stellantis North America (1)Vickers (1)Vickers plc (1)Watervliet Arsenal (1)Show ResultsBrowseCompareSelect all 1225-Pounder GunIndo-Pakistani War of 1971Centurion TankIndo-Pakistani War of 1971L1A1 Self-Loading RifleIndo-Pakistani War of 1971M113 armored personnel carrierIndo-Pakistani War of 1971M4 Sherman TankIndo-Pakistani War of 1971M40 recoilless rifleIndo-Pakistani War of 1971M48 PattonIndo-Pakistani War of 1971OT-64 SKOTIndo-Pakistani War of 1971P-15 TermitIndo-Pakistani War of 1971S-75 DvinaIndo-Pakistani War of 1971Seacat (missile)Indo-Pakistani War of 1971Vickers MBTIndo-Pakistani War of 1971ConnectionsCommanders and ForcesIndian Army, Armed Forces and Units Well-attested The Indian Army's 1971 campaign in East Pakistan led to the creation of BangladeshIndian Navy, Armed Forces and Units Well-attested Source Wikipedia: Indian Navytier 4Uses25-Pounder Gun, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: Ordnance QF 25-pounderCenturion Tank, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: Centurion (Tank)tier 4L1A1 Self-Loading Rifle, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: L1A1 Self-Loading RifleM113 armored personnel carrier, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: M113 armored personnel carrierM4 Sherman Tank, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: M4 Shermantier 4M40 recoilless rifle, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: M40 recoilless rifleM48 Patton, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: M48 PattonOT-64 SKOT, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: OT-64 SKOTP-15 Termit, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: P-15 TermitS-75 Dvina, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: S-75 DvinaSeacat (missile), Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: Seacat (missile)Vickers MBT, Weapons Systems Well-attested Source Wikipedia: Vickers MBTSources1.
