M113 armored personnel carrier

The M113 is a fully tracked armored personnel carrier developed and produced by the FMC Corporation, sent to United States Army Europe in 1961 and first used in combat in April 1962 when the United States supplied it to the South Vietnamese army. It became the most widely used armored vehicle of the United States Army in the Vietnam War and was the first aluminum-hulled combat vehicle put into mass production, with armor thick enough to protect its crew from small arms fire while remaining light enough to be air transportable and moderately amphibious. An estimated 80,000 M113-family vehicles have been produced and used by more than fifty countries, and thousands remain in combat service including with the Israel Defense Forces.
