Russian Ground Forces

The Russian Ground Forces, also called the Russian Army in English, are the land forces of the Russian Armed Forces. They are responsible for protecting the state borders and for land-based combat operations, and their main command is based in Moscow. The president of Russia is the Supreme Commander-in-Chief and appoints the Commander-in-Chief of the Ground Forces. The service dates its lineage back to 1550, but its current form was created in 1992 after the dissolution of the Soviet Union, when Russia formed its own armed forces from the Soviet ones. Since then they have fought in both Chechen wars, and the Russo-Ukrainian War has seen them deployed against Ukraine on a large scale.
