An Eight-Nation Alliance of the United Kingdom, Russia, Japan, France, Germany, the United States, Italy and Austria-Hungary, joined by the Netherlands, Spain, Belgium and Portugal, intervened against the Boxers and the Qing state, and the rebellion ended in an Eight-Nation Alliance victory sealed by the Boxer Protocol.
