The wars reshaped the map of Europe repeatedly before ending with Napoleon's defeat at Waterloo in 1815. Estimates for total deaths across the wars, military and civilian, range from roughly 3.5 million to as high as 6 million depending on whether disease deaths and the war's exact starting date are included, and historians have not converged on one figure.
